"Exciton-magnon transport in a van der Waals antiferromagnet"

Optical spectroscopy of van der Waals magnets recently unveiled magnetic excitons – a rare type of optical excitation that can emerge from spin-polarized electronic states in magnetic materials. With properties that have no analogue amongst excitons in conventional band semiconductors, these optical quasiparticles provide novel insight into elementary interactions between excitons, magnons, and light. An exceptional platform to study magnetic excitons is the prototypical layered antiferromagnetic semiconductor CrSBr. In this talk, I will discuss its fundamental optical properties and present our latest experimental results on the propagation of magnetic excitons in the presence of magnetic order and electronic anisotropy.
